Planning and writing the activity initially took me several weeks. Now that the lesson has been developed, it will take no longer than preparing the vitamin C indicator (20 minutes), getting out "plasticware" that has been kept in a box and labeled for next year (15 minutes), shopping for and dispensing the orange juices (30 minutes to an hour), and arranging to have computer access. The science information required as a necessary part of the Living Environment curriculum took two class periods. Less than one period was needed to discuss formats for student presentations and how to do a computer slide show.

After the initial period of setting the project up and discussing with students the expectations, there was really no more up-front time needed. The development of the Vitamin C Analysis - Parts A and B took 2 class periods. Performing Part B required two periods. The sharing of student work after the projects were completed took another two periods. Summarizing their results and weaving them into the required core material took an additional period.

Minimally, students were involved in 7 periods of enzyme/homeostasis concept building and lab skill development using the vitamin C investigation.
