Languages Other Than English
The learning experiences
presented on this site are made possible through the cooperation of New York State
teachers who volunteer to participate in the NYSATL Statewide Peer Review process. The
learning experiences developed by these teachers reflect their professional dedication and
commitment to the quality of education for all learners.
NYSATL encourages teachers to learn more about the Statewide Peer Review process and the membership into the Academy.
Learning
a language other than English may begin at any time; therefore,
performance indicators are keyed to checkpoints which may be
measured at any time in the K-12 continuum. The statewide
references to elementary, intermediate, or commencement levels
which typically imply specific clusters of grade levels are not
appropriate or representative of LOTE instruction.
Checkpoint
A is considered to be the proficiency level of performance and is
tested with the Second Language Proficiency Examination.
Checkpoint B is considered "post proficiency
instruction" and is assessed through the Comprehensive
Regents Examinations. Checkpoint C is the specific study and
mastery of skills and material which goes beyond the Regent's
years. |
